Gichin Funakoshi "There is no first strike in karate."
I placed this cache in honor of my sensei (who owns the dojo behind you) who taught me about the founder of Shotokan Karate, Gichin Funakoshi. Engraved on his tombstone is the quote above from which the title of this cache derives its name. While clearly for defense only, Shotokan Karate is based on finishing an opponent with a single strike. Therefore we train the proper execution of strong blocks, kicks, strikes, locks and throws that would be effective in an actual attack. We do not train just to get exercise, just to have fun, or just compete as a sport. We train to control our bodies and minds in order to effectively protect ourselves and others around us. You are stronger than you realize. Protect yourselves and those you love. Leave the world a better place than you found it. ;)
