Schloss Kastelbell wurde von den Herren von Montalban erbaut und wurde nach 1200 Besitz der Grafen von Tirol. Die älteste urkundliche Erwähnung stammt von 1238. Ab 1531 war es Pfandlehen der Grafen Hendl, die das Schloss zu seiner heutigen Form erweiterten. Nach Bränden im 19. Jahrhundert zerfiel das Gebäude zur Ruine. 1956 wurde das Schloss vom italienischen Staat erworben und 1987 bis 1995 umfassend restauriert. Seit 1999 wird es vom Kuratorium Schloss Kastelbell geführt. Das Schloss wird für kulturelle Veranstaltungen wie Ausstellungen und Konzerte genutzt und ist öffentlich zugänglich.

La prima traccia del nome del castello si ebbe nel 1238. Il castello fu eretto dai signori von Montalban. Questa stirpe nobiliare fu dopo il 1200 successivamente sconfitta dai Conti di Tirolo. Fu così che il Castello passò di proprietà dei Principi di Tirolo.
Successivamente, dal 1300 circa il castello fu sede giudiziaria. In seguito ad alcuni scambi di proprietà, nel 1531 il castello divenne di proprietà degli Hendl, che ristrutturarono il castello e lo allargarono in alcune parti.
Durante il periodo dal 1813 fino al 1824 il castello fu dilaniato da numerevoli incendi. Solo una parte fu restrutturata dai proprietari, come abitazione privata, il resto del castello quindi poteva così diventare un rudere.
Finalmente, solo nel 1956 il castello fu comprato dallo Stato italiano. Solo successivamente ad anni di lotte legali tra il Conte von Hendl e lo Stato, fu deciso in comune, una cifra di acquisto per il Castelbello, pari a 31.068 lire.

Kastelbell Castle was built by the Lords of Montalban, and after 1200 was owned by the Count of Tyrol. The oldest written reference comes from the 1238th. From 1531 it was the feudal estate pledge of the Counts of Hendl, the castle expanded to its current form. After fires in the 19th Century, the building crumbled into ruins. In 1956 the castle was acquired by the Italian State and comprehensively restored in 1987 and 1995. Since 1999, it is led by the Board of Trustees Castelbello.
