Geocache Description:

Small cache in the middle of Martinborough Square

The founder of Martinborough, John Martin, who when planning the town in the late 19th century choose to lay out the first streets in the pattern of the union flag with the square as its center. The Martinborough Square is these days the center of the town's activities. Based on the square in the first weeks of February and March each year the town hosts the Rotary Martinborough Fair which is the largest fair of it's type in New Zealand with over 480 individual stalls and over 50,000 people attending the two fairs. In November the square acts as the hub for the Toast Martinborough Wine and Food Festival that brings 10,000 to the town.The square is also employed each year as the start and finish location for several significant cycle races and the "Round the Vines" 10 km walk. The square also presents it's self as a peaceful location for family picnics.

The cache is attached to a structure 17 meters from the center of the square. Please use care and stealth when removing and replacing the cache.
