A historic homstead in Greytown
"Pine Grove" is a good example of early Greytown dating back from the 1870's. The Wilkie family first purchased a large block of land in the area in the early 1860's. On this they built the homestead seen today. The original family cottage was the rectangular building made of heart totara which is just behind the homestead.. The building to the left was the cart shed and the old barn behind the homestead was the original miking shed. Part of the totara post and rail fence also survives. Across the road from the homestead was the family orchard of which several large pear trees are survivors.
While the absence of pines on the road frontage calls into question how the property aquired it's name some of the large pine trees to the rear of the property are original survivors.
The owners are aware of the cache and you do not need to cross the fence to access the logbook.
