Geocache Description:

This cache was placed mainly to add some interest for participants of the CITO event held on the 21st April 2013.

Murphy Park was bequeathed to the Kaiapoi Borough by William Murphy. The area was run as a farm until July 1957 when the Kaiapoi Rugby League Club and the Kaiapoi Athletics Club began the arduous job of levelling the site and getting it ready for use as a sportsground. Murphy Park was opened on 22nd March 1958. The park totals 3.1456 hectares (not including the areas occupied by the Kaiapoi Bowling Club and the Kaiapoi Croquet Club, whose properties were severly damaged by the earthquake of 22 September 2010).

Although Murphy Park is the home of the Kaiapoi Rugby League Club many other activities take place here, such as Kaiapoi Borough School sports and play, running, ball games, bike riding, fishing, whitebaiting, dog play and walking, waka ama boating and kayaking.

Cache is a micro, camoed container not suitable for swaps. BYO pen.
