Den 16 november 1886 invigdes järnvägssträckan Karpalund-Hästveda, där Vanåsstation ( bytte till  Knislinge år 1934 )  var en av stationerna.  Persontrafik kördes på sträckan fram till 1967. Den 28 maj detta år gick den sista rälsbussen.  Järnvägsspåren togs bort först en bit in på 2000-talet. Idag är den gamla banvallen en uppskattad gång- och cykelväg mellan orterna i Östra Göinge.
