Geocache Description:

This is a 50 caliber ammo box located on top of the hill behind the
Park Administration Building. There is about a 350 ft. elevation
change. There may be a fee to enter the park at certain times of
the year.<br />
This cache carries ASP permit number ALL301.

Nothing better than a good high spot and as you probably have figured out, we LOVE high spots!

At one time, there was a fire observation tower on the top of this hill. Friends at the park tell me there was also a radio tower located there. As you enter the grassy opening at the top of the hill, you can still locate the 4 footers for the fire tower and what appear to be the guy wire anchors for the radio tower. They probably were not there at the same time.

The fire tower was disassembled and used to build the judging towers at the 100 meter and 50 meter ski jumps located below the tower location. See the photos in the gallery. You can find them on the Red Jacket Trail that starts behind the old zoo at the Red House administration building. It's an easy walk.

Park behind the administration building and climb the hill to the trail information sign. The best way to approach this cache is by using the old jeep road that was used to service the tower that starts near the trail information sign. As you climb this trail, you will see an old structure that looks like a cistern.
