Geocache Description:

Step up to the plate and take a swing!

A new geocache will be released each Saturday.  After
it's published, you will have roughly a week to find it and select a baseball team (I will post specific dates and deadlines with each cache). This is optional of course and as long as you find the container you can log your success for all fellow geocachers to see.

Name one team and include their name in your log. Its record the following week will be your score.

The "catch" is every team must be unique, so FTF has choice of any squad, even the Padres. STF has second choice, and so on.

After the first nine weeks, the standings will reset, then the winner of the first half will square off versus the second half champ in a geocaching World Series classic.

This geocache is the third inning.  Anyone making the find through Sunday, April 21st is eligible and the scoring will occur from Monday, April 22nd through Sunday, April 28th.

Born without a right hand, Jim Abbott was one of the most inspirational players in baseball history.  As a child, his parents encouraged him to play sports, though at first they tried to steer him towards sports where you don't use your hands as much, such as soccer.  Baseball was in his blood though, and by his senior year of high school he was not only a standout pitcher but also batted .427 with an incredible seven home runs!

In college there were many doubters, including himself, as the talent level was so much better.  By the end of his college career he was actually voted the best amateur player in America, beating out other talented players such as Ken Griffey, Jr.

Drafted by the Angels, he became the 16th player since 1965 to make his professional debut at the major league level.  He went on to an excellent career, capped by throwing a no-hitter for the Yankees in 1993. Hopefully some day he will take his rightful place in the Hall of Fame!

The cache is a small/medium sized tin container hidden in a unique park.  It's near Melrose, but please park somewhere safe.  There is a large business lot around the corner at 07.844/14.765.  I have parked there many times, although when I returned to my geomobile this time there was a security guy dressed in a suit taking down my license plate.  He said the building owners don't like outsiders parking there, so park there at your own risk.  I think if I parked near the other cars in the lot I would have blended in like a well camoflauged cache.

Good luck!
