Geocache Description:

Windmill Woods is situated at the rear of 'The Old Windmill' in Edgehead.

The Windmill is a distinctive round building now a house constructed within the former windmill. Built by the Earl of Stair it was converted to steam power about 1848. Its main purpose was to mill winter feed for farm animals.

The woodland is younger in age comprising mostly of larch with some spruce and scattered young broadleaves. There is a significant stand of maturing Scots pine in the south-eastern corner and a number of informal paths throughout the woodland. There is a very small area of new planting in the centre of the wood.

Whilst we were looking for somewhere to place this cache we had 6 deer cross our path so be on the lookout and you too may see some wildlife.
