Beware of Trees Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Mathsnut: I'm not sure what the previous loggers found, but there is no sign of the cache now. As this cache has gone missing many times despite several new positions, it is time to accept defeat.

Geocache Description:

Blenheim Park

Blenheim Park is a pleasant open space. It has a small area of play equipment, several football pitches used by a local club on Saturdays, trees that kids love to climb, a fenced pond, grassed areas that are left uncut during the summer to encourage wildlife and a couple of banks that are popular with sledgers when it snows. The park is frequently used by dog walkers who often follow a circuit around the lower area.

Dogs and bicycles are allowed in the main park, but not within the playground area. There are bike racks just inside it, and a fence all around it which many dog owners make use of.

Unfortunately, there are no toilets in the park. There is a car park behind the fire station, the entrance to which is on Mountdale Gardens. There is also on street parking on Mountdale Gardens and Blenheim Chase. There are 2 gates into the park on Mountdale Gardens, and several ways in from Blenheim Chase.

The cache is a small click and lock pot. Please make sure you push it back into the hole thoroughly to keep it hidden. The location is wheelchair and stroller friendly, but wheelchair users will not be able to extract the cache.

Beware of Trees

When researching this cache, we discovered that sinister trees lurk in this park. First we found this greedy fence-eating tree. Can you find it?

We carried on walking around the park and soon found a perfect hole for our cache, placed our container in and took some coordinates. But when we tried to take the container back out, it was gone. We sought advice from fellow cachers, we returned with tools, but it could not be found. There was only one possible explanation - the tree had eaten it!

We returned on another day, with a new (larger) container and a plan to defeat the tree - the hide was ideal and we weren't going to be beaten. The question is, can you beat the tree?

As an added bonus for finders of this cache, the original container is presumably still there - it is a micro with a small magnet on. If you can find it, you can keep it - let us know how you get on

UPDATE: Sadly the tree kept eating our caches, or the squirrels kept stealing them, so we had to choose a new position for the cache. It isn't very far away, but it is no longer in a big enough hole for Alice to fall down.

Many thanks to Tony Little of Southend Borough Council Parks Department for permission to place this cache.
