As a child I was always told this old gym was haunted, it's time we found out....Who ya gonna call? GEOCACHERS!!
Growing up on the Waiakea side of Hilo town we have always heard stories of Waiakea Uka Gym being haunted. Children could be heard playing at night or basketballs could be heard bouncing in the dark,locked gym. People would say that they would see a white lady walking around the baseball field looking for her lost child.
Welcome to Hilo's first NIGHTCACHE. The coordinates will take you to the tree with the first FIRETACK, from there you must find a firetack "bread crumb" trail to the cache to log your find.
A few things will be required to do this:
1. A flashlight to spot the FIRETacks( all are about my eye level, I'm 5'7).
2. Bring a friend, Don't do it alone.
3. A good pair of shoes
4. Mosquito repellent( this is Hilo)
5. Guts
The trail will lead you to a turn into the bushes marked by a double FIRETACK, from there, be careful walking in the bushes. You see a "smile" the cache is within a 6 ft radius of it.
Park hours are 7am -11pm so you should be OK if you're out by then, otherwise you may park on the shoulder outside of the parking lot.
Please be aware of your surroundings in the dark and if someone calls your name behind you, don't turn around. As always practice CITO and please put back the cache exactly as you found it or better. PLEASE NO SPOILERS! Also, Try not to look for this during the day. There is a unregistered travel bug for the FTF.....have fun and be safe.
