Geocache Description:

One of a series of simple, easy to find, caches at railway stations in and around the Manawatu.

Welcome aboard the WMR service to Wellington! Last stop Shannon, next stop Levin.

When the Wellington and Manawatu Railway came through here in 1886 Kereru was given a simple shelter shed to support the local farming and sawmilling community. A large goods shed and stock yard, locomotive shed and a shelter over the platform were added by the 1900s. Kereru was renamed Koputarua in 1899, and corrected to Koputaroa in 1909. There was a very small town here, including a country school with up to 90 pupils.

The platforms and station building have been removed, although the platform lights are still there! Right in front of the cache site. I would like to hear from anyone who knows when this station was removed.
