I placed this after an afternoon spent at Wakanui Beach with friends.
If you live in Ashburton you need to travel to Christchurch or Timaru if you want to experience a sandy beach. Having lived in Ashburton for seven years now it seems that the thing locals like to do is to go to the beach have fish and chips light a fire and maybe even do some fishing.
We have been out a few times with different groups. It is a great spot to catch up with friends and just relax, unwind a bit.
Today one of our group sent a contiki out to fish with and we caught few dogfish.
WARNING This beach is NOT suitable for swimming in it has a very strong cross shore current.
