Geocache Description:

This is an offset cache as other caches are close to the Watson Fothergill building. So the co-ords will take you to the building and from there finding the co-ords for the cache is easy. It’s a magnetic micro - BYOP;
This cache is inspired by the Watson Fothergill Trail caches in Nottingham (and extended with kind permission of Black Five). Watson Fothergill Trail #1 - GC41R84

Once you reach the building (currently a violin making school) take your time to enjoy it and look out for its date. The final cache location can be busy with passing shoppers, so stealth will be required and possibly a good amount of patience. The co-ordinates for the physical cache are:
Date on Building = ABCD
N 53 0(C÷2).56A
W 000 4B.(D-A)45

Watson Fothergill (1841-1928). Born Fothergill Watson and later changing his name, he was one of the leading local architects practising on the Nottingham Area from about 1870 to 1906.

Watson Fothergill worked in the Gothic Revival and Old English vernacular styles - very popular in Victorian times. These styles were loosely based on medieval churches and castles and 16th/17th century Tudor buildings. Fothergill's buildings were very distinctive often featuring towers and turrets, tall chimneys and walls decorated with horizontal lines of blue/black bricks. His more important buildings were decorated with carvings of animals, plants, beasts and gargoyles. He often used heavy dark wood beams in porches and eaves of his buildings.

This building was one of at least 3 designed by Watson for the Nottingham and Notts Bank (the other two are in Nottingham) and includes the manager’s house which forms part of the frontage.

(Acknowledgment is given to the Watson Fothergill Society for providing the info in the listing)
If you like your history; there are many other good history based caches and walks in the area and many other architecture and history gems in Newark town. The closest to you are:
  1. Cavaliers and Roundheads multi cache – a ‘solve it as you go’ tour of Civil War Newark owned by CodEyes - GC1J4FX
  1. Civil war trail – a non caching based tour of Civil War Newark - http://www.experiencenottinghamshire.com/civil-war/newark-civil-war-trail
  1. Or you could download information about Newark Castle from here - http://www.newark-sherwooddc.gov.uk/media/newarkandsherwood/imagesandfiles/parks/parkspdfs/NewarkCastle%20leaflet.pdf
I have put terrain at 1.5, the gz should be easy for everyone to get to (i.e. a 1) except it would be possible for someone to replace the cache a little too high for a wheel chair user.
