Geocache Description:

In a world full of hyperbole, this truly is the End of the Word. Or at least thought some anonymous 19th century cartographer who named this place. Why? That will remain a mystery, unless of course you are wiz-bang historian of Placer County, of the many things I am or been called, a Placer County historian isn’t one of them.

So what brings Cold Springer and me to the End of the Word? On more than one occasion our good friend Pirate of the caching clan Pirates2+2 talked about this place, having come to or at least near the End of the Word accidently many years ago. Two days before he died he and I, out on a caching mission, made a half @ss attempt at relocating the End of the Word. We failed. Today Cold Springer and I didn’t fail – sort of-

Actually getting to the End of the Word. turned out be a bit daunting, so we decided on a view of the End of the Word. Even that didn’t work quite the way we wanted but we did locate nice spot. IOHO. instead.

I suspect this cache won’t have many visitors, it turns out that the End of the Word is also in the middle of frigging No-Where. A long drive for most, then short or long hike/walk depending where you end up parking… No cache lives in a vacuum, there are other reason to visit this area: other caches of course, the Placer County Big Tree Grove, with two self-guided walks/hikes, vast vistas of the canyon & river below, river access and much more…

Here are more photos of the area with some captions, just Click here

To you Pirate we dedicate this cache… May you rest in peace our friend.
