Geocache Description:

This series was designed to be a hike through one of the largest State Gamelands in Western PA.

Apologies to the Great and Wise Cacher BeerBatterBilly, who originated this idea

We have all heard the expression, "A picture is worth a thousand words." Here is your chance to prove it!

The cache is NOT at the listed coordinates! There are TWO ways to find this cache:

1. Find and decipher the coordinates hidden on this page or............

2. The more fun option would be to figure out exactly where I was standing when I snapped this photo!



I was standing inches away from the cache when I snapped the photo. Look at the photo closely... I left plenty of clues to line yourself up easily. The hide itself will be a pretty easy find. (Once you are standing in the proper spot!) I was in a standing position and I did NOT use any zoom settings on the camera. What you see in the picture should be pretty close to what you will see at GZ.

The majority of this gamelands is water, ranging from stream to lake to marsh and swamp. Unofficially known as the Hartstown Swamp, the area is located at the headwaters of both the Crooked Creek and Shenango River Watersheds.

The caches hidden in this series are a mix of sizes and ratings. Kind of like a box of chocolates, youre not sure what youre gonna get. :)

I've attempted to keep these in the wooded areas a short distance from the water, on the surrounding hills so flooding shouldn't ever be a problem. Nonetheless, be a smart cacher and always prepare for wet and mud.

A few things to consider:

  1. State Gamelands= ORANGE! Wear it during the hunting seasons!
  2. This is a swamp. You should consider this and be prepared. There will be:
    • bugs - bring repellant
    • thorns - dress appropriately
    • ticks - keep an eye out
    • poison ivy - know what it is, and what it look like. I placed all of these without getting the PI, you should be able to find them all without touching it either.
    • irritated canadian geese - just point and laugh at them.
  3. Take some water. You know, in case you get thirsty.
  4. Park only in designated areas.
  5. Be aware of posted signs. Don't get the locals in a fluff.
  6. Please don't litter. You bring it in, you take it out.
  7. Bring your camera! Why dont you have your camera with you anyway? You should always be taking lots of pictures when you cache! :)
  8. Last but not least, HAVE FUN. Enjoy the walk! It'll be just like golf, except without the irritation of that stupid little ball.
