The third in an occasional series of caches intended to raise awareness of the many public access points to Rhode Island's shoreline. The RI Coastal Resources Management Council (CRMC) has established close to 350 coastal access points throughout the state. Many seem to be neglected, perhaps becuase of a lack of awareness to their existence.
While jogging down Post Road a few weeks ago, I noticed this strange little road by the Ocean Point Condominiums. I followed the road, which went underneath the Amtrak train tracks. I was pleasantly surprised at what I saw on the other side... a hidden parking area, a beach to explore, and nice views of Greenwich Bay. Of course, I also realized I found a nice spot to place a cache!
A little reasearch revealed that established public ROWs to Greenwich Bay have been recognized by the Warwick and East Greenwich Municipal Harbor Management Plans. Most of these ROWs are roadways that have been platted to the water. This cache will bring you to one such location, identified simply as "Access Point #5."
Ocean Point Road can be easy to miss, so please see the included waypoint to get you in the right area. From there, you'll have a short walk along a gravelly beach to get to GZ. Please note the easy terrain rating... there is no need to bushwhack or search within the thick vegetation that is near gz. Please CITO if you can!
