Geocache Description:

Another favorite place 2 bring visitors and friends. Below the building where the famous bar is, which was famous for people like Clark Gable, Johnny Weissmuller among other silver era stars who visited the place. The building is beautiful, so glad they fixed it up. (It has clean bathrooms too). Cache is a brown large magnetic key holder. Plz be careful, high muggle area.  BYOP. Theres a TB plus my usual outta circulation Mexican peso, pins and etc

The Hotel Riviera opened in 1930. The main shareholders of the company were Penn Phillips, Manuel Reachi, W. Neil Byron and Jack Dempsey. The latter was then champion of heavyweight boxing. Success of Ensenada Beach Hotel. From 1930-1938 the casino hotel was successfully, However, several unfortunate events forced the hotel to close its doors in 1938. The main ones were: The Great Depression in America, World War II and the prohibition of gambling in Mexico.
Consequently the company could not meet Treasury taxes and seized the building. Between 1939 and 1942 the building was used as a military barracks by the Mexican army to help protect that portion of the Pacific from attacks by Japan.in 1978, the Mexican government decreed the restoration of the devastated building was completed in 1981 and its reconstruction. Now known as the Social Center, Civic and Cultural Ensenada, (Centro Cultural Civico) a name that clearly speaks of his current duties.
