Geocache Description:

This cache is part of a revival of the series of caches originally hidden by golfnutz, one of Clarksville’s geocaching pioneers, along the Spadra Creek Nature Trail. This trail is a nice walking/biking/jogging trail that makes a 2.6-mile complete loop that is easiest if walked in a clockwise direction. It is paved on the west side of the creek, but unpaved and fairly rough on the east side.

This cache is located just off a set of stairs that provide access to the trail from Grandview Ave. The Boy Scouts constructed the stairs some years ago, just before I started geocaching. At that time, they were in great shape and provided an excellent route down the steep hillside to the main trail. There have been at least two geocaches hidden off these stairs in the past, providing me with much geocaching pleasure. The most recent one was hidden by golfnutz in 2005 and archived in 2011. It is the name of that cache which inspired this cache's name.

Unfortunately, the stairs have not been maintained over the years and a tornado that passed through this area in 2011 contributed significantly to their decline. So take care when descending or ascending the stairs to find this cache. In addition to loose boards, there is significant erosion, making for loose footing on a very steep slope. The cache is at a fairly secluded spot, with clear evidence all around you of the tornado’s destruction of this once heavily wooded hillside. But nature is recovering the area.

This may be a challenging hide. Or it could be a quick one if you are lucky and look in the right spot at the right time! You are looking for a bison tube.

Please leave the cache where you found it so the next cacher will have the same challenge. I also ask that you be careful in logging this find so your comments will not give clues to future cachers.

The closest parking for this one is at the junction of Poplar Street and Grandview Ave. (see Parking waypoint for coordinates). If you park here, it is a short downhill walk via the stairs to the cache. Or, you may approach the cache from the Spadra Creek Nature Trail itself, if you park at another spot and walk the trail.

Should this cache need attention or if you have any suggestions for improving this cache please send me an email. And remember, your log is my only reward for placing caches. The more you write the better I like it!

This cache is located on city property & placed with permission of the Clarksville City Parks Department.
