Gardiner's 1st TB Motel is located near the northern entrance into the park. This is an easy multi-cache. You must first visit Roosevelt Arch, and read the month & day on which the cornerstone was placed for the TB Motel lock combination. The 1st set of co-ordinates will take you to the arch. The 2nd set of co-ordinates listed here will take you to the TB Motel: N 45 01.818 W 110 42.616
Elk, deer, bison & antelope are often seen in the area especially during the spring/fall. Do not feed or approach wildlife! I hope while you visit the cache you will enjoy Arch Park & our community. The Chamber of Commerce has some very nice early photos of the area. Roosevelt Arch facts: The Arch idea is attributed to Hiram Chittenden & design is attributed to Robert Reamer. The Arch is 50 feet high & the main opening is 30 feet high by 25 feet wide Each tower is: 12 feet square at the base, tapers to 6 feet where the Arch begins Construction started about 2/19/1903 & finished on 8/15/1903 The rocks were hewn from basalt, a volcanic rock, quarried locally Cost of the Arch was $10,000.00 Above the Arch is carved: "For the Benefit and Enjoyment of the People" On the east tower is carved: "Yellowstone National Park" On the west tower is carved: "Created by Act of Congress, March 1, 1872" President Theodore Roosevelt was already in the park on vacation when asked to lay the cornerstone Source: www.yellowstone-natl-park.com It's appreciated if you would leave a TB if you are take one; if not, please only take one & leave some for others to enjoy.
