Geocache Description:

A multi in the church micro series.

Hawridge is one of the Hilltop Villages spread out along one of the ridges that radiate from Chesham .  All the villages are in Buckinghamshire.  It is not mentioned in the Doomsday Book but evidence has been found of human occupation since about 600BC.  The Lordship of the Manor was first granted shortly after Doomsday to a Norman follower of William the Conqueror.

St Mary’s Church is first mentioned in 1227. During the 19th century it fell into disrepair and was rebuilt in 1856 by the church architect ,William White, using original flint-and-brick materials and in a style peculiar to the 1850s known as 'constructional polychromy'.  It uses bricks of different colours (typically brown, cream and red) in patterned combination to highlight architectural features.
The church has retained its 13th century circular font.

The church is not visible from the main road and can be found adjacent to Hawridge Court, a Tudor building built on the site of the former manor house and surrounded in part by  an earthwork thought to be medieval.

There is very limited parking near the church but the Rose & Crown pub and car park is not far away on the main road.  Please respect the church goers at the usual times and do not attempt to find the ‘numbers’ in the dark as your activities will arouse the suspicions of the neighbours.

If anybody would like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication.
There is also a Church Micro Stats & Information page found via the Bookmark list
