The Nene Way Series
started by Cassie's Crusaders
The Nene Way footpath starts at Badby on the western borders of Northamptonshire. It meanders along the river and takes you through small villages and towns following the Nene Valley for 110 miles. It passes through Northamptonshire, Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire before joining The Wash near Sutton Bridge. The route was opened with the support of the Countryside Commission in the late 1980's.

The market town of Oundle is situated on a hillside in a meander of the River Nene.
The Nene Way follows the river around Oundle through the Water Meadows from Barnwell Country park to Ashton Mill.
The Water Meadows are a haven for wildlife and popular with walkers, and anglers. While setting the cache a pair of swans were in the meadow, a pair of Red Kites were gliding overhead and geese were on the river bank. At times the water meadows live up to their name and can flood after heavy rain.
Oundle Market is held every Thursday
Oundle Farmers Market is held on the 2nd Saturday every month.
This cache takes you through the meadows on the southern side of the town from where the path heads round under the A605 towards Ashton Mill. The Nene Way footpath towards the road bridge has in the past been overgrown with nettles, I hope it stays walkable through the summer, but be prepared.
Limited parking can be found at N52°28.621 W000°28.015 at the end of Bassett Ford Road. Please don't block access.
Please take care with children near the river.
The cache is a screw top tub, with log book and a few swaps and room for small tb’s.
Please retrieve and replace it carefully to keep it well hidden.
If you would like a longer walk, the you can follow a 4 mile circular town and riverside walk. From the Market Place walk along North Street & Station Road, then following the signposts for the ‘Riverside Walk’ (N52°29.286 W0°27.774) head round the Nene Way towards Bassett Ford Road (N52°28.621 W000°28.015) then back up to the Market place.

Also nearby is Barnwell Country Park, a great place for children to let off steam and feed the ducks.
