Geocache Description:

THE GAUNTLET - A term used to discribe the DEADLY Route followed by hundreds of people too and from work on a daily basis........

Qatar has two large Industrial Cities, one in the South called MESAIEED and the other in the North called RAS LAFFAN - it is the latter to which this GAUNTLET refers.

The Gauntlet is a single lane road being one of the routes leading to Ras Laffan; the morning traffic consisting of trucks, busses, pick-ups, sedans, muscle cars and the ever present SUV's.............at around 06:30 one has the afore mentioned heading towards Ras Laffan at the same time as the "night shift" workers are headed home in the opposite direction!!!!!! ALL are extremely keen to either head too work or home after a long shift; the 80km / hr speed limit is totally ignored and the general practice by Muscle Cars and SUV's alike is that if they are overtaking they have the right of way no matter what - oncoming traffic becomes "invisible" and as such are expected to vear off onto the shoulder / into the sand to avoid a head-on collision..........An absolute death-trap of a road hence the name The GAUNTLET.

EXTREME caution is to be taken if you happen to be on this road during the above mentioned time on a "work day", the Qatar working week being Sunday - Thursday........

The BEROCCA Series is OFF and AWAY from The Gauntlet and accessable by saloon car if attention is given to clearance at times.
