This is a series of multi-caches that I intend to place around the rural churches of North Monmouthshire. There are so many lovely churches around the area that are undervisited, so I hope to attract a few more visitors to these great spots. I shall start off with a few and hope to add to the series as I go along.
All of the caches start at the church where you need to find the answers to a couple of questions to allow you to find the final cache position, and none are intended to be particularly difficult (I would prefer you to find the caches) or are more than 1/2 a kilometre from the church. The co-ords above are for a widening in the road just below the church.
This cache is the fifthteenth in the series and starts at St Cadoc's church in Panrhos.
The village/hamlet of Penrhos is pretty small but still manages to have it's own church - the building was extended in 1878 to what we see now which consists of a nave, north aisle, chancel, porch and tower (which currently houses three bells. It is built in the Perpendicular style.
To find the whereabouts of the final cache location look for the answers to the questions below and replace the letters for the appropriate numbers in the co-ords at the bottom. So here we go:
Take the short wander up the hill to the church main gates which have a covering construction. Two of it's cross beams have words carved into them, one has 'Be Thankfvl' and the other has a single word. How many letters in that word? A
Still in tha same spot look at the engraved stone to your right (facing the church) which is dedicated to which war? B
Now head upto the church porch and you will see inside a yellow sign dating the restoration of the porch. What is the date and substitute the appropriate numbers. CD5E
Looking out of the porch now and you will see to your front and left a large grave with railings around it. How many spiky rails on the top row of the short end? F
Now take a look back to the church to the right of the porch and you will see a small door. There is a single window to the left of this door that has many of a green design. If they are apples then G=2, if they are crosses then G=4, if they are leaves then G=6.
So replace your answers in this co-ord and go get the cache! Final position is N51° (B+B)A.C(A-G)F W002° (E+B)(D-A-C).F(A-C)E
The cache is a micro Bison-type container that is bright blue so shouldn't be that hard to find - or is it? Once you find it please tuck back in nicely, thanks.
