Geocache Description:

This is a two stage cache that we have made as hard as we could to find so we rate it as we did becouse you first need a water craft and second you will need your tools of the trade! The stages are within six feet of the trail, so there is no need to wonder off and posible damaging plants.  There are no trail maps at this time but a map of the location can be seen at http://dnrt.org/reserves/#_map_view_

This cache is in Dartmouth, above the high tide mark in the picturesque Slocum River, downriver from the town boat landing. No permit or fee is required to use the landing.. After launching, all you have to do is paddle south. The upper part of the river is rather shallow at low tide. Although it is navigable anytime.

Directions to boat ramp.
Slocum River -Town Landing Launch (MA): 195 East to Exit 12 (Faunce Corner, Mall, UMass), go right at end of ramp onto Faunce Corner Rd. At Route 6  Mobil station, go straight across onto Old Westport Rd. At the fork, bear left (it's more like straight) onto Chase Road and continue to end (about 3.5 mi.) Turn right onto Russels Mills Road. Watch for Davoll's Store - yellow building on left (about 1mi.) which begins Horseneck Rd. Continue and then turn Left (but actually appears to be straight ahead) onto Town Landing. About 1/4 mi. down you will see the Town Landing Launch on Left near tennis courts and dirt parking area.
Boat ramp coordinates N 41*34.105, W 071*00.305

I also like to paddle from the ramp to Demarest Lloyd state park. Its about 3.5 miles down river. There are some fabulous sandbars that are high & dry at most low tides. These make a fine place to have lunch & soak up the sun for a couple of hours. I like to leave the boat ramp while the tide is going down & continue on downriver past the cache. You can then paddle back upriver on the rising tide anytime. I would recommend holding off on looking for the cache until you have at least a (1) one foot incoming tide (Tide chart can be seen at http://www.noreast.com/tides/indexb.cfm?page=3 ) , even at that you will need to navigate the channel and allow yourself time to leave without pulling your craft threw the mud!
