St. Hart's 'Hood: Beyond West Trailhead Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

St. Hart: I pondered and reconsidered and rethought, and I kept coming to the same conclusion: Replacement of this cache would change the nature of the hide too much, given the change in the surrounding environs described in my previous "Disable" log. Hence, I'm ARCHIVING this cache to open up the space for a potential new cache (by St. Hart? by someone else?) in the future.

Geocache Description:

Overview: In PVE, south beyond the west trailhead of the trail between the Hollywood Riviera section of Torrance and PVE. It's a smallish, well concealed container hidden just off a trail that extends south past the bookend landmark to our Miro Gate Lodge Tower cache at the eastern end of the trail. Interesting views of PV Blvd. below and vistas toward Malaga Cove and the ocean from here.

A Harty Kudos to CherDawg for her first-ever FTF
We populated our neighborhood (the Hollywood Riviera) with geocaches, and as of Spring 2012 had built up a 17-cache power series along the 2-mile trail heading east from the north end of the parking lot. This cache is hidden in PVE on the perpendicular trail heading south beyond a very visible PVE landmark. (We had a now-archived cache, "St. Hart's 'Hood: West Trailhead" – originally camo'd & velcro'd onto that landmark – that was lost in March of 2013 and would have remained too exposed due to landscaping activity around the landmark. With its demise, we have now hidden both this cache and, as of 8/2/13, a 2nd new cache very near the west end of the Torrance-PVE boundary trail because the 1st one hidden in April 2013 did not survive some construction in the area.)

D = 2.5 due both to a fairly well concealed location and that trees will likely cause your GPSr to jiggle around. You will leave the trail and sorta bushwhack maybe 10-20'. You may need to hunt hard.

There is a parking lot just a little north of the above-mentioned PVE landmark, right along PV Blvd. Please watch for traffic when you cross Via Anita from lot to the trail leading to the cache. Traffic flying by on PV Blvd. won't notice you, but keep an eye out for on-foot muggles.

As of 8/2/13, because of failure of the original cache container, the container has been replaced and is within 2' of the original location. It is a slightly up-sized container, now suitable for small items, but bring your own writing utensil anyway. Please replace the cache where you find it (actually, it's hard not to).
