Can you prevent nuclear war from breaking out in North West England?
During the Cold War, Holy Loch in Scotland was the home to the US Navy's Submarine Squadron 14. The submarines were armed with nuclear ballistic missiles. Following the collapse of the Soviet Union, the base was deemed unnecessary, and the last submarine left Holy Loch in June 1992.
It is a little-known fact that Warrington Borough Council also has its own fleet of nuclear submarines, armed with IBBMs (inter-borough ballistic missiles). They are primed to defend against attacks from neighbouring towns such as Runcorn or St Helens. Some of the missiles are permanently aimed at the Stobart Stadium, ready to make a pre-emptive strike if there is a credible threat of Widnes RLFC winning the Challenge Cup. Skelmersdale, Altrincham, Northwich, and Ellesmere Port are all within range and are at serious risk of thermonuclear obliteration, as are some outer suburbs of Liverpool and Manchester. There are unconfirmed rumours that the Borough has developed rocketry capable of carrying a deadly nuclear payload as far as Bolton or Crewe – however, defence analysts suspect that this is little more than posturing by the Warrington junta.
The submarine base is located by an impregnable secret island in the Mersey, on the banks of Howley Lock.
The despotic and unhinged mayor of Warrington has his finger on the red button and is likely to push it at any time! Only you can stop him from unleashing Armageddon on this part of the North West!
Hidden near the highly guarded entrance to the base is a special disarmament capsule! (It is disguised as a 35mm film canister.) You must find it and save us from impending doom!
Please be careful by the water's edge! The bank may be slippery, and there is a distinct possibility of capture by armed frogmen patrolling the island. Seriously, please be careful.
