Geocache Description:

Kei Ling Ha Interactive Series 2/4

This is the second of four "interactive" caches in Kei Ling Ha Lo Wai, Sai Kung.

All four caches are on-site puzzle caches with a twist! The cache is at the posted coordinates, but you will not be able to retrieve it without performing some tasks first.
Combining the best of geocaching with the traditional treasure hunt using a map, these caches should provide a challenge for all types of cachers!

The 2nd cache is located next to the path running along Three Fathoms Cove.
Hailed by the Hong Kong Wetland Park as "a gem in the eastern corner of Hong Kong"; this natural bay is home to abundant wildlife and flora both above and below the high tide mark.

This cache will delve into the history of Kei Ling Ha Village and help you unlock the secrets of it's past!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here is your mission:
1.  Locate the cache at the posted coordinates.
It will be obvious though that you will not be able to access the cache.
2.  Find the Map.
The map is in the same location as the map for KLH1. If you havent solved KLH1 yet, please refer to it's listing to find the map location.
Three Fathoms Cove is a natural estuary connected to Tolo Harbour to the North. It has been studied for it's unique ecological importance as a pristine mangrove site since at least the 1990's. With the building of fish farms and a typhoon shelter breakwater, some of the natural vegetation was destroyed.
However, after being declared a Site of Special Scientific Importance in 1994 and with efforts from Friends of the Earth, large parts of the natural mangrove is recovering.
Today it is the natural habitat for more than 20 crab species, a dozen mollusc species, dozens of butterflies, fish, crustaceans and various reptiles.
3.  You need to find three numbers to open the vault.
The locations are indicated on the map.
4.  The 1st number is located at an old abandoned bridge built more than 60 years ago. Next to the bridge is an old Marker describing the construction and people involved when the bridge was built. There is a date on the inscription. This number is the 1st clue.
The easiest path to the old bridge will likely take you through the remains of old rice paddies. Kei Ling Ha Lo Wai was a farm in it's not too distant past. You can still find rice fields, fruit tree groves, many stone walls and old farm buildings.
In summer the old rice paddies might be occupied by "Green mates Association" - an organic community farm project. They won't have a problem if you walk through the field as long as you don't step on their bok choy!!
5.  The 2nd number is at old farm building ruins. There is a date carved over the entrance to one of these buildings. This is your 2nd clue.
6.  The 3rd number is in a small hakka village (walled village) located in the heart of Kei Ling Ha Lo Wai. Enter through the large gate and find a small temple inside. To the left of the temple is an abandoned house. The number on this house is your 3rd clue.
7.  Now, go back to the cache location and "Crack the Safe"
(Follow the detailed instructions on the back of the map!)
You can validate your final CODE by clicking here: certitude.
8.  Replace the Map.
Congratulations, you unlocked the past of the second puzzle!!!
NOTE: During the rainy season walking through old rice paddies can get a bit muddy.
There is now some serious new development near the GZ. Please take care and watch for construction vehicles!
