This series of colored bison tubes is located near Monongahela National Forest's cut your own Christmas tree area. There are 12 bison tubes. To count this cache, you need to find the one that contains the log.
Also see:: On the way to this site, you'll pass one of my other caches, Cheat Mountain Spruce (GC4769H), a quick park-and-grab. If you're looking for a hike while you're here, head up the Barton Knob access road to my Barton Knob (GC3H0QZ) cache.
Important Visitor Notes
To access this cache, take US 250/WV 92 to the summit of Cheat Mountain. Follow FR 227 south for 1.2 miles. The road is gravel and can be rough in spots, but is accessible for a passenger car.
Just before Ground Zero, you'll see an access road leave to the left for the summit of Barton Knob. You'll want to park in this area. There are great views along the access road if you do take a hike up it.
Winter: FR 227 is not maintained in the winter. Due to its high elevation, Cheat Mountain can receive much more snow than the lower valleys. If FR 227 is snow-covered, you probably should not attempt this cache.
