This cache is placed on the short path that leads from Wemyss Bay village to the beach on Undercliff Road.
I used this path nearly every day as a boy to play at the shore or go fishing and in my teens, general loitering. I now walk the dog here and the shoreline is still popular with villagers and visitors.
It can be part of a cache 'n' dash from the car or part of a stroll along the coast on Undercliff Road. The name Undercliff obviously relates to the sheer cliff that looms over the length of the road and still houses some interesting old sandstone buildings both on and below the cliff.
Wemyss House was built in 1860 on the shore, standing where Undercliff Court flats now lie at the north end of Undercliff Road. The house was built of white sandstone and formed a very striking feature when viewed from the Firth. It had tennis courts to the front and beautifully terraced gardens uniquely placed on the cliffs behind the house, parts of which can still be seen today. Pictures of the House and what the north end of the shore looked like 150 years ago can be seen in the attached photos.
Please use the hairpin in the container to remove the log.
