Discover Danish Districts

Der findes rundt om i verden en masse forskellige afbildninger af Jorden, vi bor på, eller blot af dele af den – store lande såvel som små villakvarterer. Og ingen afbildning af et område er helt perfekt, da den enkelte person, der prøver at forstå den, vil have sin egen måde at forstå afbildningen på. Selvom vi f.eks. i det meste af verden er enige om, at et verdenskort skal have Nordpolen øverst og dermed Ækvator i midten samt Europa og Afrika i midten og dermed Greenwich i midten, og at verdenskortets lande skal være delt op i farver for overskuelighedens skyld, vil kortet efter det enkelte behov altid kunne ændres mere eller mindre for forståelsens skyld, f.eks. mht. Jordens afbildede krumning, antallet af byer vist osv. Kun ét sted i verden findes en næsten perfekt afbildning af Jorden – nemlig Jorden selv som afbildning. Men heller ikke selve Jorden er en helt præcis afbildning i sig selv, f.eks. hvis man ønsker at forstå jordoverfladens temperaturer eller kloakeringssystemet. Ej heller kortet i denne opgave, man må løse, hvis man vil finde cachen Discover Danish Districts, er en perfekt afbildning af Danmark – langt fra. Den er så uperfekt, at den netop er perfekt til denne opgave, der går ud på selv at færdiggøre Danmarkskortet. Kortet – eller nærmere kortene; ét for Jylland og Fyn og ét for Sjælland, Lolland-Falster og Bornholm – viser alle de danske kommuner (de grå firkanter) og strukturen mellem dem mht. hvilke nabokommuner, de har (linjer, stiplede ved sejlrute pga. manglende fast forbindelse). Måden, kortene færdiggøres, er ved at ”opdage” kommunestrukturen– deraf navnet Discover Danish Districts. Det er meget simpelt: kommunerne har hver især et bogstav mellem A og H, og i listen under kortene har kommunerne hver især et tal. Når alle kommunernes placering på kortene er opdagede, har hvert bogstav en række tal. Summen af tallene findes, og det sidste ciffer i resultatet indsættes på bogstavets plads i cachens koordinat:

Tips & Tricks:
  • De to kort er pga. kommunernes reelt varierende størrelser og antal nabokommuner i den grad forvrænget
  • Start opdagelsesrejsen i en nemt definerlig kommune, f.eks én med mange eller få nabokommuner eller en sejlrute
  • Ingen sejlrute fra en kommune til en anden kommune er tegnet, hvis en anden og på kommunekortet kortere sejlrute fra samme kommune ikke er tegnet. Kun den / de korteste sejlrute / sejlruter er tegnet
  • Nogle kommuner har små øer, man må kigge nøje efter, når man undersøger sejlruternes længde

All around the world there are a lot of different representations of the earth that we are living on, or, merely, some parts of it – as for example large countries or small villages. No such representation of an area is quite perfect because the individual person trying to understand it understands it his / her own way. For example, although we agree in the most of the world that a world map should have the North Pole in the top, and thus Equator in the middle, and Europe and Africa in the middle, and thus Greenwich in the middle, and agree that the world’s countries should be represented in different colors, the world could always be better represented at the map, for example when it comes to the representation of the world’s curvature, amount of cities, etc. Only at one place in the world exists a nearly perfect representation of the earth – namely the earth itself. But even not the earth represents itself perfectly, for example if it is needed to know the temperatures on the earth’s surface or the sanitation system behind it. Nor the map in this exercise, which is needed to complete in order to find the Discover Danish Districts cache, is a perfect representation of Denmark – not at all. It is as imperfect as it is perfect for this exercise about completing the map of Denmark. The map – or rather, the maps; one for Jutland and Funen and one for Sealand, Lolland-Falster, and Bornholm – shows all of the Danish municipalities (districts) and the structure between them when it comes to their neighbor municipalities. To complete the map it is needed to “discover” the municipality structure – hence the cache name is Discover Danish Structures. It is very simple: the municipalities each have a letter between A, and in the list under the maps the municipalities have a number. When the localization of all the municipalities has been discovered, each letter has a row of numbers. The last digit in the sum of the numbers is put instead of the letter in the coordinate of the cache:

Tips & Tricks:
  • Due to the real municipalities variations of size and the number of neighbor municipalities, the two maps are really disfigured
  • Begin the discovery from a municipality easily definable, for example one with many or a few neighbor municipalities or a ships route
  • None of the ship routes from a municipality to another is drawn, if another ship route, which is shorter at the municipality map, is not drawn. That is, only the shortest ship route / routes is / are drawn
  • Some municipalities have small islands that might be important for the length of the ship routes
  • Use this municipality map
