Geocache Description:

This Geocache has been put in an area that will soon be lost to mankind’s destructive forces. Therefore, while this little piece of “paradise” is still here, we would like to share it with you all.

Although there is a little litter and mankind’s footprint around, we choose to view the positive aspect of this area. Where possible we try to clean it up (and you are welcome to treat it as a CITO), but where it is not possible, we would rather turn a blind eye to the bad and see the good only. It is our hope you can see the positive here too. See the way that despite what people have already done to the land, it just keeps rejuvenating, the animals adapt, and the plant life becomes lush.

There are many bird species seen regularly here. Some of the most common ones are Malachite Kingfisher, African Fish Eagle, Crowned Cranes, Spurwing Geese (often with goslings in tow), Spoonbills, Cattle Egrets, and Grey Herons. We also often see Water Monitors (leguaans), Monkeys, and Mongooses (mongeese?). We would love to hear about what you see here.

As with all our caches in this area, you do have permission to be on this land, however please do not damage any fencing, and please leave all gates closed. Also, please be aware that the fences are electric (so unless you want to give us a very amusing log, please don’t touch the fences).
As the name above suggests, you are highly encouraged to wear gumboots (takkies, crocs, slops, and work shoes will definitively be ruined) in the rain season (mostly from September to May), or you can bring your canoe. In the dry season, you might be ok with regular shoes. We would also advise you to stay on pathways rather than going as the crow flies (unless you want to give us a very amusing log). Oh yes, and if you want to make friends with the horses, you are welcome to bring an apple or carrot just don’t get mugged by them.

From our viewpoint (we live here), this area is very safe (not a likely chance of being mugged by humans). And there is ample light, safety and fun factor to do this cache at night.
Happy caching.
