Geocache Description:

This special hide was made on April 26, 2013 which is Arbor Day!

Welcome to Nebraska City!  This cache commemorates Julious Sterling Morton who lived from April 22, 1832 – April 27, 1902.

Among many accomplishments, J. Sterling Morton is best known worldwide as the founder of Arbor Day which is celebrated nationally every year on the last Friday in April.

As a lifelong resident of Nebraska City, I've visited Arbor Lodge Park and the mansion of J. (Julius) Sterling Morton countless times.

This cache location takes you to a lesser known destination for tourists that swell our little town each Arbor Day.

Be sure to check out the DESK prior to leaving the area!! UPDATE 7/10/25: I just learned from a passing maintenance worker that the very first person interned at the cemetery is located just north of the JSM monument and is inscribed as such on it's headstone! Let me know in your log if you find that too!

Happy Caching!
