We thought a celebration was in order!  Coming up soon, May 3rd, is the anniversary of the day our wonderful hobby got started.  When the GPS signal degradation called Select Availability (SA) was removed by the Clinton Administration on May 1, 2000, it opened up the possibility of games like this one.

The text below sums it up:

On May 3, 2000, a five-gallon bucket was placed outside of Portland, Oregon by Dave Ulmer.  It contained Delorme Topo USA and 2 CD Roms, a cassette recorder, a "George of the Jungle" VHS tape, a Ross Perot book, 4 $1 bills, a slingshot handle, and a very famous can of beans.  The coordinates were then listed on the Internet and modern-day Geocaching was born.

The original cache called "Stash #1" was damaged beyond repair by a Oregon road crew mower. It's gone now, but a group of west coast cachers using the original coordinates placed a plaque in tribute to the original cache that started it all.

We always name our caches after songs and this one seemed fitting. Celebration is a song by Kool & the Gang created in 1980 that reached #1. This year will be the 13th anniversary of geocaching. We placed this puzzle cache to celebrate. Once you solve the puzzle you will be searching for a metal cylinder (Thanks Mud Dancer).

Congrats goes out to Team GeoGriffin on the FTF.
