Geocache Description:

A tree-climb in the Queanbeyan Showgrounds - go on, show us what you've got!

The Queanbeyan Showgrounds is the place to come to see car shows, swap meets, circuses, a rodeo, and (of course) the Queanbeyan Show in November - basically the spot for people to show off their wares, hobbies, skills, produce etc. This cache is your chance to show off your tree-climbing abilities - even if no-one witnesses your antics, you'll be able to brag about it in your log.

Queanbeyan Council have a little more information about the Showgrounds on their website:

http://www.qcc.nsw.gov.au/Discover-Queanbeyan/Queanbeyan-Showgrounds/Showgrounds

It can be Muggle Central around here at times, but mostly it seems to be pretty quiet - though it's probably best not to attempt this one when there's an event on. There's on-site parking between 7am and 7pm - access is off Cooma St. Also, it looks like they shut the place after dark, so the above times are probably a good indication of when the cache is available.

I've been scouting for a good spot to put a tree-climb for a while, and this seems to hit the mark - it's got a rather challenging first move to (hopefully) discourage the inquisitive Muggle, but the rest is a walk (er, climb) in the park.

The cache is approx. 8m in the air, in a spot where it's easy to straddle a branch while you sign. The log book has been tethered to the container - a pen's been included, but you should bring your own (and maybe a spare, just in case).

The container should be on the top of the branch - make sure it's on top before you open the container, otherwise you'll be climbing back down and up to retrieve any contents! Let me know if it seems to be slipping.

Online logs will only be accepted if they have a corresponding log in the book - spotting a tree climb cache from the ground can be challenging, but it doesn't count as a find. If your trained monkey autographs the book for you, please give them the kudos they deserve when you log online.

It is possible to free-climb this one without assistance or apparatus - not saying you have to do it that way, just that it's possible. If you wind up using an elevation aid, please mention it in the online log - it might provide inspiration for someone else to give it a go.

Tree-climb caches carry an elevated level of risk. If you don't feel confident, don't attempt it - and don't forget you have to be able to get down as well!

Edit - I have bowed to peer group pressure & dropped the difficulty rating. Should've listened to the D/T checker in the first place!
