You are seeking a short two stage multi cache that begins at the grave marker for R. E. Hocut, a veteran of the Civil War.
R. E. was actually named Rufus Elijah Hocutt. He enlisted as a private in Company I, 32nd Alabama Infantry.
The 32nd Infantry Regiment was assembled at Mobile, Alabama in April 1862, with companies recruited in the counties of Clarke, Wilcox, Washington, Baldwin, Tuscaloosa, Monroe, Fayette, and Mobile. The 32nd participated in the Battle of Murfreesboro, was active in the trenches of Jackson, then fought from Chickamauga to Nashville. It reported 105 casualtes at Murfreesboro, and lost 257 at Chattanooga. Many were lost at Spanish Fort and only a remnant surrendered on May 4, 1865.
On his grave marker is engraved “Gone Home”. The symbol on Lord Baden Powell’s grave in Kenya has a symbol on it, a circle and in the center a dot. This symbol means “Gone Home”.
