I am sure that everyone who has tramped around in the forest has come across unique tree formations which resembled some form of animal or other object we are familiar with. In my wanderings I have seen many different "objects".
I have walked past this location many times and have thought "That sure looks like some sort of dugout canoe".
This fallen tree has a portion of the root at one end which in my imagination represents the front of the canoe, for 10 or more feet back from this raised front end, there is a trough hollowed out of the log. It then drops to a lower level perhaps where the tree broke when it fell, this is what I imagine as the back of the canoe.
Here is a picture of the beginnings of a dugout canoe:

A year ago I was shown the remains of a dugout canoe near Hope, it was a fair distance from any larger body of water but was close to a stream that I assume was the intended method of getting the canoe to the lake and beyond.
In our local area it is rare to see remaining cedar trees large enough to be candidates for canoe building, however there is a rare huge Douglas Fir tree up this trail that was spared the fate of becoming lumber, carry on and visit this massive tree and log the cache near it. Link
When you log this cache, feel free to tell others of unique tree formations you have come across in the forest and post a picture if you are able.
