The first mention of the Carraia bridge (then built in wood) dates from 1218. Destroyed by a flood in 1274, it was soon reconstructed, but fell down again in 1304 under the weight of a crowd who had met to watch a spectacle. It was the first bridge in the city rebuilt after the 1333 flood, perhaps under design of Giotto. Again damaged in 1557, it was remade by will of Grand Duke Cosimo I de' Medici, who assigned the project to Bartolomeo Ammannati. Enlarged during the 19th century, the bridge was blown up by the retreating German Army during World War II (1944). The current structure is a design by Ettore Fagiuoli, completed in 1948 (from Wikipedia). The cache is located in Piazza Goldoni. Il Ponte alla Carraia fu il secondo ad essere costruito dopo il Ponte Vecchio ed il suo primo nome fu Ponte Nuovo. Le prime notizie della costruzione risalgono al 1218: il ponte inizialmente in legno fu distrutto da una piena nel 1274. Fu ricostruito presto, ma già nel 1304 cedette di nuovo per il peso della folla che lo sovrastava per assistere a uno spettacolo sul fiume. Dopo la disastrosa piena del 1333 fu il primo ponte a essere ricostruito, sembra seguendo un progetto di Giotto. Danneggiato nuovamente nel 1557, fu ancora ricostruito per volere di Cosimo I che commissionò l'opera all'Ammannati che già stava lavorando al Ponte Santa Trinita. Alla fine del diciannovesimo secolo fu allargato per permettere un passaggio più agevole per carri e carrozze. In seguito venne minato, come tutti i ponti fiorentini, nel corso della seconda guerra mondiale e fatto saltare dai nazisti in ritirata per impedire il passaggio delle truppe alleate. Nel 1948 fu nuovamente ricostruito, così com'è visibile adesso, mantenendo la struttura dell'antico progetto a 5 arcate, dall'architetto Ettore Fagiuoli (da Wikipedia). La cache è in Piazza Goldoni.
