Harding Grass is a non-native perennial grazing grass. It probably originated in the Mediterranean region. It was originally brought to North America as a forage grass. It is found along roadsides that are not often mowed. In the wild, Harding grass can often be invasive, supplanting native plant species. Harding Grass is probably one of the habitats for my least favorite creature on earth – THE TICK! Scientific Name: Phalaris aquatica Family: Poaceae (Grass family) Found at the Slough: Grasslands, grazing or grazed areas, roadsides. Did you know... Harding Grass poses a fire hazard in dry summers and is then used to re-vegetate areas after wildfires. Information cited from: http://www.elkhornslough.org
