Geocache Description:

BEFORE DECIDING WHETHER TO ATTEMPT THIS CACHE PLEASE READ ARDOM'S NOTE LOG OF 28th AUGUST 2016. THE SWOOPING SEASON NORMALLY LASTS AROUND SIX WEEKS.

Geebong Park in Geebung lies on both sides of part of the Zillman Waterholes. Zillman's Waterholes are a series of deep water courses and ponds which flood after heavy rain. They are named after a pioneering Lutheran missionary who settled in the area in the mid 1800s.

Magpie Domain (GC1MK8X) was our first cache. It was found 167 times in 4 years. After drastic tree surgery by the caretakers the hiding place no longer existed and Magpie Domain was archived. This is a new hiding place, originally in the same tree but now 66 metres away.

There are entrances to the park from several adjacent streets including Roland Street.

The park is mainly more or less flat mown grass except for the deep watercourses which are crossed by footbridges. However cyclists should watch for inconspicuous drains. There are concrete paths but not to the cache.

The container is now a 200 ml systema lunch box painted brown.

Warning. Aggressive Magpie swoops have been known in the area and one wounded me in mid September 2009. Fortunately these only occur during the nesting season each year. The danger period was apparently over within six weeks. Time will tell whether the cache is still in the magpie's domain.
