Geocache Description:

You will be assimilated.

Locutus turned his attention to his former shipmates, represented digitally in his mind as a mass
of descriptive data. Their puny and insignificant ship hung in the space before him, caught in his tractor beam
like what his formerly human mind said was a fly on flypaper. Locutus watched the ship writhe and
strain to break loose from the restraining tractor ray He warned them again: “Resistance is futile.”

Then something strange happened: his targeting laser changed colors. Instead of its normal reddish hue,
he saw an orange beam emanating from the right side of his vision. As he looked around to try to diagnose
the problem, he saw the black cloth of his Borg suit, and some dirt on the floor from a raiding party visit to
some dusty brown world. Memory of a yellow sun from the planet of his biological birth intruded,
but he quenched that circuit quickly. Looking at the brown dirt again, he saw red in it, likely some small red
native creature that had resisted assimilation too strongly. Locutus looked out into space once more,
at the Enterprise: a small bright dot in the black space around the Cube. Its hull shone bright white in
the starlight, but the violet tractor beam held it like a fish on the end of a spear.
Again, he strangled the memory. The Enterprise's crew were trying something new again, because the tractor
beam was turning bright green in response to the tachyon beam from the Enterprise. He modulated
the tractor beam and watched the empty black of space for a moment while he waited to see if his changes
would be sufficient to continue holding the Enterprise. The tractor beam regained its normal violet color.

Some seconds later, the Enterprise tried a new tactic, this time a combined tachyon and anti-graviton
beam. The tractor beam turned a bright blue and started wavering. Remodulating had no effect. Concerned
that the Enterprise might escape, Locutus sought help from a more experienced Borg leader and opened a
communications line to his Borg Queen. At length, she suggested trying tractor modulus 13. The tractor beam
went back to violet, and Locutus knew that the Enterprise would not escape. He stared at Commander Riker
across the communication link and said once more, “Resistance is Futile.”
