I was looking for a nice trail this spring to spend the entire day hiking and the Skyline Trail gave me just what I needed. I started at the Pineview side of the trail which starts at much lower elevation than that of the Ogden Divide. The elevation gain is gradual with very long switchbacks and I mean long.
The only thing missing along this trail was a supply of Caches that would keep my attention and give me an opportunity to take a break. At the bottom of the trail the caches are plenty, but the deeper and higher you go, like the air it starts to get thin. So I have made sure that you get a break and are able to find a cache at least every mile. I have put a cache at or near the mile markers as you climb to the top. I have put out 2 thru 6 because 1 and 7 areas were too close to other caches. This route took me to a Cache know as Heartbreak Ridge and with a few side trails along the way this trail will give you a good 16 mile hike and 3200ft gain in elevation. Have Fun out there!!!!
