Geocache Description:

Wiccan – Water (Night Cache)

The cache is NOT at the posted coordinates, but it is a good place to park. Please carpool if a large group wishes to visit at same time. The general placement and hiding of each cache was inspired by setup of a Wiccan circle, however none of the caches are religious in anyway. There is no other significance to the naming. In order to complete the final, Wiccan – Spirit, you will need information from the other 4 caches, including this one.

GC4EFGN Wiccan – Earth II
GC4AZZ2 Wiccan – Air
GC4AZZA Wiccan – Fire
GC4AZYN Wiccan – Water (Night Cache)
GC4AZWZ   Wiccan – Spirit (final)

BYOP!

A note about winding, hilly roads in Wyoming County near cache - please drive carefully, especially after finding the cache back home. Roads are also narrow and not marked.

If you have never done a Night Cache, this one may not be a good starter, as Difficulty is a 4. What’s a Night Cache? Generally speaking, most Night Caches are marked with fire tacks that can be seen best at night with a flashlight or head lamp. More information is included in the description, like below.

Zilt Pitorg and I like Night Caches and decided there were not enough of them. Therefore, we created this Night Cache at Carlton Hill State Forest as part of the Wiccan series. Cache trail starts across from parking on Trail 4 with a W in fire tacks. If you have walked more than 50 feet without seeing that W, turn back, cross the road, and look for that W. Tacks are about 7 – 8 feet high. Some are orange, some are white, and a few are brown.

This is a forest, so hiking boots are recommended along with a good, strong flashlight or head lamp. I recommend a spare light and doing this with a buddy. Hunting is allowed here, so please wear reflective clothing when appropriate. Difficulty was decided for this cache based upon this cache being found at night, with uneven muddy, slipper terrain with small streams to cross.

Some trees along Trail 4 have more than one tack on them. Last time Candy Apple 68 and I did cache maintenance, we sometimes didn’t see the first one until after the second one had been added. Doesn’t mean change of direction, like some night caches. Just keep following the tacks.

At some point, tacks should leave Trail 4. AFTER leaving Trail 4, you will spot 2 fire tacks, one orange and one white, on a tree stump as tall as a person. Next to it is the large tree that used to be part of it. Please mark that waypoint. This is your search area.

The search area includes about 7 trees in a rough semi-circle, each marked with a fire tack. Cache is hidden at a tree with a fire tack. Unless tack becomes missing, there should be no need to search any trees without a fire tack in that semi-circle area. If that happens, please send me a message directly.

Please remember to check for coordinates in the cache which will take you to somewhere nearby to answer 3 questions for the Wiccan – Spirit final. These coordinates are only last 3 digits for both North and West and can be driven to them.

RETURN TRIP

Find that tall stump waypoint that I told you to add. On the side of the stump opposite the large downed tree, look for fire tacks headed back the way you came. Pretty sure you should see a white one on 2 separate trees. After that, tacks are a mix of orange and white with a few brown, mostly on right side of trail, but not always.
