ARCHIVING CACHE

As there's been no cache to find for a while, I'm archiving your cache to keep it from continually showing up in search lists and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the very near
future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Thanks a MILLION, Glenn

Geocache Description:

Onondaga Cave State Park

The park's visitor center contains displays and exhibits that showcase Missouri as the Cave State and explain the significance of Onondaga Cave. During the summer season, nature programs are held for park visitors, including tours of the other spectacular cave in the park, Cathedral Cave.

Picnic areas near the Meramec River, which borders the park, and an open picnic shelter that can be reserved make the park a great place for family gatherings. More than six miles of hiking trails are available, and the river provides opportunities for swimming, fishing and canoeing. The park's newly renovated campground opened in April 2004 and offers electric/water campsites as well as basic campsites with concrete pads.

Blue Heron Trail
The Blue Heron Trail is a short 1/2 mile level linear trail, estimated walking time 25 minutes each way.

This trail leads from the park visitor center along the north edge of Spring Lake to the park campground. Five minutes into your start, you will encounter the “Lost River” also known as “Onondaga Spring,” issuing from Onondaga Cave. A dam and millrace constructed in 1886 detains the water before it spills into Spring Lake. Possible wildlife sightings include beaver, river otter, muskrat and perhaps the trail namesake, great blue heron. This is an easy, mostly level trail.
