Geocache Description:

Small cache, camoed, BYOP, swag for kids, room for trackables.

This cache placement is in honor of the many weekends I came here with my friends to dance and have fun. I had not been here in 40 years and the memories just flooded in. If you were a young adult somewhere in or near Fayette County you knew about Swiss Alps Dance Hall. It was purchased by Henry Tietjen and his wife in 1933 from August Brune. This was an interesting hall in that there was an area to the right of the bandstand where parents and observers could stand and watch the dancing without having to pay. The left side of the bandstand was called "the bull pen"  where men who didn't want to dance could stand and watch the goings on.
In the 1960's the Tietjens made a decision to book rock and roll bands because the young people needed a place to go. Swiss Alp became the place to go in the 60's, 70's. Kids from all around central Texas came to dance. Some big name artists and bands played at Swiss Alps, let's see if any of these ring a bell: B.J.Thomas and the Triumphs,Roy Head and the Traits, The Barons, The Velvets, The Moods, The Telstars, just to name a few. Can you name the number one hit of B.J. Thomas and Roy Head? If you don't recognize them you should their songs. One New Year's eve it was said that there were over 1300 people there with B.J. and his band playing!  Here's to great memories, good times, good friends and ...Happy Caching!
