This is the twenty fifth in our "what it's not" series of caches along the Mull of Galloway Trail. The last one at the moment but not for too long, we hope you enjoy them as much as we do.
The Mull of Galloway Trail stretches 24 miles from Stranraer to the Mull of Galloway. It is an inland trail form Stranraer to Clayshant and thereafter follows the coastline of the Mull of Galloway peninsular. The terrain is generally flat, broken by the occasional steep gradients, particularly to the south of Drummore and stout footwear is recommended. The varied landscape with its large numbers of species of birds and other wildlife such as deer and seals, with wild flowers of assorted varieties, provides for an interesting and colourful walk. The trail is indicated with signs and way markers which display directional arrows, and directional arrows are also fixed to other posts and trees.
Where the trail reaches the coast the way-marked route is generally above high water mark; however there are sections where walkers may prefer to walk along the beach, subject to the tides being suitable. A total of 14 information boards are located along the route and relate to the history of the area. Full details and a map of the walk can be obtained from the Stranraer Tourist Information office.
Now for the cache. This one is a clip lock box complete with log, pencil and swaps. We did not want to make these too easy so we have inserted a little quirk into the hints that might stagger you.
