The geocache "Raunio" is located in the agricultural landscape of Haltiala area, Helsinki, close to the Niskala arboretum.
Geokätkö "Raunio" sijaitsee Haltialan maanviljelymaisemassa, lähellä Niskalan arboretumia.
The site is accessible on foot, but in the wintertime you may need skis or snowshoes and the cache may be covered by snow. A bicycle trail ends few hundred meters from the cache. Places of interest nearby include an arboretum and the river Vantaa with its rapids and birdwatching grounds.
Raunio is maintained by the children of a kindergarten nearby. We discovered the site during a bicycle trip and since then it has become one of our favourite hangouts. When you reach the site you'll see why.
Paikalle pääsee jalan, mutta talvella voi tarvita suksia tai lumikenkiä ja kätkö voi olla lumen peittämä. Pyöräilytie päättyy parin sadan metrin päähän kätköstä. Muita kiinnostavia paikkoja lähistöllä ovat arboretum ja Vantaanjoki koskineen ja lintumaastoineen.
Rauniota ylläpitävät läheisen päiväkodin lapset. Löysimme paikan pyöräretkellä ja siitä on sittemmin tullut yksi lempipaikoistamme. Kun pääset sinne, näet itsekin miksi.
