Geocache Description:

Rislev Kirke

Click for English Click for English

The church, which was probably built in the early 1200s, was in the Middle Ages dedicated to "Vor Frue". Choir and nave were built in hewn granite during the Romanesque period , as best seen in the porch, the base is partially covered by soil.

The arched south door is preserved in use whereas the north door has disappeared. The arched windows are all bricked, but can be traced in several places in the brickwork. In the north wall of the nave is an ashlar with Diagonal cross. Tower and porch were built in the late Gothic period, the porch gable was rebuilt in 1761. The church underwent a major renovation in 1860-63, when large parts of the masonry was realized.

The Romanesque chancel arch is preserved with molded string. During the gothic period the church had cross vaults incorporated , of which only westward span is preserved, the other were renewed in 1860-63.
