Geocache Description:

This is a series of 11 caches set on a circular route in and around Johnny's Wood (JW) which is situated in the delightful Borrowdale Valley, between Rosthwaite and Seatoller.
The route is approximately 3 miles in length along good paths with one short but steepish climb about half way round.

Parking can be found at the start of the walk at:
1. NT car park in Rosthwaite (pay & display) (N54 31.412 W003 08.893)
2. Car park just on the Seatoller side of the Scafell Hotel, Rosthwaite. (£3 full day, pay at the Hotel)
(N54 31.364 W003 08.777)
3. Lay By on the Keswick side of Rosthwaite at the 'Take a Seat' geocache - GC3498K, room for three cars. (N54 31.610 W003 09.032

On your way to JW 1, when passing 'The Flock Inn' cafe, note the plaque on the neaby barn door entitled "ROSTHWAITE". On it John Gilpin wrote of the people of Rosthwaite, "the sons and daughters of simplicity enjoy health, peace and contentment."

In what year did he write these words? You will require the number later into your trek.

Special thanks goes to the National Trust, the Assistant Warden of Borrowdale YHA and local farmer for their kind permission in allowing these caches to be placed. You are looking for a small plastic container. After finding the cache, if you don't fancy going over the stepping stones due to the water state, continue along to the bridge.

Cache No. 2 JW 2 -"I'm sure I'm in the wrong tree" has now been 'Archived' therefore your next cache is JW 3.

Enjoy Your Journey.

+++++++++++ Congratulations to BigLad & Co. - FTF +++++++++++

I am afraid that Age and Ill Health has now caught up with me and I am unable to maintain my geocaches as I would like. I am therefore going to ARCHIVE this series along with others within the next few months.

If any fellow cachers would like to keep any of the containers for their own use, please help yourselves - JUST INFORM ME WHICH ONES YOU TAKE, so others can be informed.

In view of the above PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE TRACKABLES, RETRIEVE ANY BY ALL MEANS.

PLEASE NOTE: This series will now be archived on WED. 7th Sep 2022
