Joseph and Mary (Rasor) Rohrer purchased the first land here in 1805. In 1807 Rohrer's daughter, Barbara, first white girl living here, married John Spitler who cleared the site for Brookeville in 1806. Their wedding, the first in the township was performed by Jacob Miller, first German Baptist minister in the area. First church, school, and cemetery were established here in 1815. Two Revolutionary War soldiers, three Civil War veterans, and many first families are buried here, including the Spitlers and the Waitmans.
